proxy checker script (perl/php/python)

Does anyone have a good script (not a windows program, but a script in perl,php, or python) for checking proxies that they'd be willing to share?

I inspected the code of the script and it doesn't do what I'd like it to do -- it doesn't actually check the proxies for you, it sends them to samair.ru for them to test them for you and gives you the results (I'm sure they don't keep and distribute the good ones or anything like that <sarcasm>).  I'll post again if I find what I'm looking for in the event its useful to someone else.

I'd like to reiterate -- I don't recommend the script I posted.  It was NOT what I was looking for.
